The morning started rather chilly for an April day but maybe just the right temperature for walking what was a gentle walk from Keynsham Church to Chequers and Willsbridge mill and back to Keynsham. This 5 mile walk mainly on level ground was a delight to manage and over the route had some interesting history to talk about. We tend to forget that although now a gentle river and lovely landscape it was a very industrial area in the past. This consisted of mining and working mills and of course the Dramway running from the shortwood area to Avon Wharf, above Keynsham Lock. Now that the Willsbridge Mill is restored it was a great place to stop for refreshments at the Café there. After a break we proceeded back to Keynsham following the route of the old Dramway and finishing up at The Lock Keeper inn for more refreshments.
A great way to spend a Sunday.
Hopefully more walks will be arranged later in the year.
